About Goldsmiths
The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths,
more
commonly known as the Goldsmiths' Company,
is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of
the City of London and received its first royal
charter in 1327.
It has been responsible for hallmarking since
1300
and, today, operates the London Assay Office and
supports the craft and industry of silversmithing
and precious metal jewellery.
The Company continues to play an increasingly
important role in support for the craft and industry,
assisting with the technical training of aspiring
craftsmen and promoting excellence in the design
and craftsmanship of silverware, jewellery and art
medals, through supporting and arranging
commissions, competitions and exhibitions."
